The Pine Hill Dairy (PHD) has confirmed its place as one of the best in the world by copping four International Organization for Standardization (ISO) awards simultaneously.
The awards are: ISO 9001 – quality management systems; ISO 14001 – environmental management system; ISO/Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS) 18001 – occupational health and safety and ISO/Food Safety Systems Certification (FSSC) 22000 – food safety.
Integrated management systems coordinator Nicole Henry said this had resulted in a number of internal changes and increased their competitiveness in the world market. She said they had received the recognition in August.
Yesterday, the PHD hosted the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Dr David Estwick on a tour of the plant.
Estwick said, “I want to congratulate the PHD on probably being the only dairy in the world which would have been authorized and certified through four ISO processes in one go. It is a commendable achievement and says to us that size sometimes doesn’t determine capacity and the capacity for PHD to be designated as a world class facility is not in doubt.”
Estwick pledged his full support for the dairy, saying he would do everything in his power to ensure its survival and asked all Barbadians to buy local milk.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL) Richard Cozier said the achievement also meant PHD was the only dairy in CARICOM to hold all four accreditations and they would be looking forward to similar success with Banks Brewery, another subsidiary of BHL. (CA)
