Edwin Sutherland is really beginning to deliver on the talent that has promised so much.
The best of Barbados’ junior riders found himself back on the podium after winning multiple races on Wednesday night, including the coveted 10 000 metres, during the latest round of the Barbados Cycling Union’s Track League at the Randolph Field Velodrome.
Riding under the National Stadium lights, Sutherland proved a class above the rest in the junior division while beating rivals Kristin Vanderpool and Joshua Kelly in both the keirin and 500 metres.
But the rest of the field didn’t have an answer for the A-Class Batteries Golden Wheeler cyclist either, as seniors Ross Callender and Javed Mounter had to settle for second and third, respectively, in the 20-lap, 10 000m event.
Callender did manage to take the seniors’ keirin after Ivan Puckerin took the masters’ equivalent along with that division’s unknown event as well.
G4S Team Swift’s Tremaine Forde-Catwell had a double of his own after downing teammate Chayne Goodman for both the unknown and 2 000 metres in the juvenile category.
BMX rider Jahmali Padmore also finished with two wins on the night following first-place rides in the 1 000 and 1 500 metres.
The cycling calendar continues on Sunday with a road race on the Gun Hill circuit starting at 2 p.m. (JM)
