The time to act is now. Women must seize opportunities and take the fight against domestic violence everywhere.
That was the rallying call of Marilyn Rice-Bowen, president of the National Organization of Women, at a meeting of Barbadians in Heroes Square Thursday night when hundreds of men and women gathered for what she said was the beginning of a push to end this scourge on society.
“I’m asking women – you sit on [Parent-Teacher Associations], you sit on church groups, I know you get very busy about fish fries and cake sales and all that – put those things on the back burner and talk about domestic violence.
“You are women in your churches, you are women in your PTA, you are women in all types of organizations. Your women are suffering,” she said, and entreated the many men in the crowd to join the battle. (GA)
