No to Dottin

A HIGH COURT judge yesterday turned down an application to allow suspended Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin to return to work as the island’s top cop.
In delivering the decision in a 45-minute hearing in chambers, Justice Margaret Reifer, in disallowing the injunction filed on behalf of Dottin, ruled there were no special circumstances to disturb the normal principle that you should not force an employee on a reluctant employer.
She however granted a stay on the move to retire Dottin as outlined in the suspension letter of June 17, which stated the top cop was being retired in the public’s interest.
Dottin, through his team of lawyers led by Elliott Mottley, QC, and Leslie Haynes, QC, had charged that the said letter sent to him by the Police Service Commission (PSC) under the chairmanship of attorney-at-law Guyson
