A fire at Park Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, yesterday affected three houses, leaving five people homeless.
An uninsured wooden house occupied by brothers Greg and Jamal Mahon and Shane Collymore caught fire just after midday and spread to two other houses close by. One house was destroyed and the other extensively damaged.
A visibly upset Jamal Mahon said he lost all his jockey gear and was not sure if he could compete at a race meet next week. He said the situation was made more distressful by the fact that he lost everything belonging to his father, who passed away in August last year.
Mahon said he had not long come home from work and gone a few yards away when he was alerted that the house was on fire and he saw the smoke. “I was there breezing and barely see the smoke. I could not even get inside because the smoke was kicking back too much,” he said. (LK)
