Out of a coma and recovering well.
That medical report card on the condition of the Mighty Sparrow came from a daughter, Michelle Francisco, who described the Caribbean cultural icon as being “conscious” and “progressing well,” a development which has lifted the spirits of his family and millions of fans.
“He is doing very well and we are happy with the progress he is making,” Michelle told the DAILY NATION in New York yesterday.
“That’s all we can say at this time.”
Dr Roy Hastick, president of the Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Brooklyn, described Sparrow’s emergence from a coma as a “major development” that brought “relief to the heavy hearts of those who were worried that the worst would occur.
We all started to pray and the Almighty has responded favourably. We thank God.”
Sparrow 78, whose real name is Slinger Francisco, slipped into a coma about two weeks ago after reportedly suffering a stroke in New York City, where he has lived for at least a decade.
The Mighty Sparrow is married to a Barbadian, Margaret. (TB)
