Two?world-class stars are heading to these shores.
Olympic gold medallist Christian Taylor, the number four triple jumper at this year’s World Athletic Championships in Moscow, Russia, is coming next week while Shawn “The Flexatron”?Rhoden, the fourth-place finisher at Joe Weider’s 2013 Mr Olympia, the ultimate event in bodybuilding’s pro ranks, is arriving here at month-end.
What makes it more intriguing is that the United States-based duo both have Caribbean roots.
Taylor’s parents Ian and Stephanie are Barbadian, both hailing from St Philip, while Rhoden is Jamaican.
The 23-year-old Taylor, who will be accompanied by girlfriend Kellie, a fast-rising volleyball player, is spending four days here, during which he will visit the museum of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) and give pep talks to three schools – Harrison College, Lester Vaughan Secondary and Hilda Skeene Primary.
This is his first visit here since he won Olympic gold in London in 2012 with the tenth best leap of all time.
The majestic Rhoden, who has one of the most pleasing physiques in bodybuilding, won four pro contests last season, highlighted by a bronze medal at the Mr O.
