At the start of a week of activities to honour David Thompson, a new weatherproof photograph of the late Prime Minister has been mounted on his headstone.
Thanks to the initiative of relative Ronnie Gittens, the photograph was sent to Canada where it was mounted in porcelain using a process which protects it from the elements.
“The previous photograph used to get wet and looked bad and after seeing what had been done at the gravesite of another friend, I decided to have a similar process done for our late Prime Minister,” Gittens said.
Yesterday’s ceremony at the St John’s Parish Church burial ground was attended by relatives and close friends of Thompson, who died on October 23, 2010.
