West Indies head coach, Ottis Gibson has denied that he will be heading to Glamorgan to take over the position of head coach.
Last week it was reported that the man behind the regional cricket side’s improved performance in all formats of the game in recent years, was in the running for job at the Welsh county.
However, speaking to the media during a Press conference at Accra Beach Hotel yesterday, Gibson, who has held the position for the past three years, gave his assurance that he was staying put.
He said he had not had any communication with Glamorgan concerning the position which was left vacant following the departure of Matthew Mott.
“I suppose that when you are doing a good job you get linked with every job that opens up,” Gibson noted with a huge grin.
“But seriously, there is no truth in the rumour whatsoever.
“It is the first county that I played for when I was in England, but I’ve had absolutely no contact with them,” the former West Indies fast bowler added.
Having signed a new contract with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) this year to continue on as head coach, Gibson said that he was happy in his current position, and he had no intentions of leaving.
“I just signed a new contract in February and I am very happy with where we are.
“We’re all very excited about the future . . . . We have the T20 World Cup coming up and going to Bangladesh and defending our title is the next big thing on our radar.
“So there is absolutely no truth in the rumour, so you can dispel that notion all together,” Gibson said.
Gibson, who also previously held the positions of coach of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) North West region and fast bowling coach for the England team, took over from sacked West Indies head coach, John Dyson in February 2010.
One of his biggest achievements to date has been helping the West Indies rise to No. 5 in the Test rankings, a goal which he had set from the onset of his tenure.
