GENERAL SECRETARY of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Donville Inniss, is offering an open invitation to the general secretary of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), George Griffith, for the two sit down and hash out the issues between the two parties.
One of the outstanding issues he said he was willing to discuss was the behaviour of individual members of the parties, including Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley.
In an interview yesterday following a Barbados International Business Association commencement service at St Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church for International Business Barbados Week 2013, Inniss accused Mottley of behaving reprehensibly as of late.
“We have just come out of a serious Budget debate and I fail to understand or appreciate Miss Mottley’s conduct. I can only conclude she has a date with destiny and is in a major hurry to be Prime Minister of Barbados. I would simply say to Miss Mottley, ‘Take time and behave yourself as a leader is supposed to behave’, [because] her constantly crying down everything that is happening in this country while offering no alternatives is nothing short of reprehensible . . . .
“So I am publicly throwing out an offer to the general secretary of the BLP to meet with me . . . to discuss any and all issues, including how politicians should conduct themselves,” he said.
Inniss accused the Opposition of telling potential foreign investors to hold off their plans and “having a meeting with non-governmental organizations and telling them they would not be able to afford food or car parts in six months”.
“I cry shame on Mia Mottley . . . . There is an extent one should go in order to get your hands on the reins of Government; you don’t have to seek to destroy a country like this. I conclude this has much more to do with her attempt to secure her position as leader of the BLP than with the economy of Barbados because Miss Mottley does not yet enjoy the support of at least 40 per cent of her parliamentary colleagues,” he said.
