‘Save us from Sinckler’ rally

THE GROUNDS of Queen’s Park in the afternoon were damp from the rains, but scores of people still stood or deposited chairs on the lawns.
Others used tents scattered across the grounds or sat on the walls, listening to the platform speakers.
Popcorn, hotdog and soft drink vendors did a brisk trade with the crowd that ran to several hundreds.
Speakers insisted that it was not a Barbados Labour Party (BLP) rally but a national one that, hopefully, would bring together both BLP and Democratic Labour Party (DLP) supporters to “save Barbados”.
Several BLP supporters turned out in their party T-shirts reading “T’ings Dread We Voting Red” while a number of people wore formal church clothes.
The rally came against the backdrop of a BLP motion of no confidence against Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler.
It was dominated by charges of incompetence by Sinckler and calls for Barbadians to sign the petition seeking his removal.
Party spokeswoman Pat Parris said more than 5 000 signatures had been collected in Queen’s Park.
