HUNDREDS TURNED UP at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday to collect refunds for tickets bought for the postponed Barbados concert of Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour.
Faye Wharton-Parris, director of Premier Event Services Inc., which was responsible for ticketsales and also contracted to handle the refund procedure, told the DAILY NATION that the first day of the four-day refund process went smoothly.
“We are running from 10 [a.m.] to 6 [p.m.] but we had a rush when we started and there were some people here from 8:30 [a.m.], but we were prepared for the rush. There is a plan in place, we laid it out and right now we are just executing that plan.
“Some people are coming for multiple refunds. And people who came in for the show are also coming for their refunds,” she said.
Wharton-Parris also indicated that some ticket-holders were very interested in finding out if a new date had been scheduled for the show to take place.
In a release earlier this week, the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) said challenges in getting equipment to Barbados, from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, in time to successfully complete construction of the stage for the Diamonds World Tour show, were to blame for the postponement.
The BTA added that while many fans were let down, it would not give up on another Rihanna show in Barbados.
Shontelle Howell, who collected a refund for four tickets, said she was disappointed when she heard the show had been called off. (AH)
