Green Light

??RESIDENTS OF THE GARRISON area have finally seen the light on night racing.
?Barbados Turf Club (BTC) chief executive officer Rosette Peirce believes it’s just a matter of time before her body is given the go-ahead to erect lights at the Garrison Savannah following a recent survey that revealed members of the surrounding communities were mostly in favour of the project.
Peirce expressed the sentiment during the launch of the upcoming Winters Jockeys’ Challenge after learning of the findings.
“I think we’ve gotten quite far because the feedback was very positive,” reasoned Peirce.
“That survey was extremely encouraging and it has actually made me feel like we’re right there [in getting permission].
“There was an article recently saying that the lights are on but the lights aren’t quite on yet because the town planner still has the final say. And the lights are so expensive that we can’t give the makers the go-ahead to start doing anything until we have that final word, but as far as the community on a whole is concerned we ought to have those lights,” she added.
It’s welcome news for the BTC ahead of this month’s discussion of the project at a town hall meeting, which serves as a requirement of the Chief Town Planner as part of the Heritage Impact Assessment.
