THE AL GILKES COLUMN: Scandal or no scandal, she’s welcome

In all my days I never thought such a thing would ever happen to me.
I have reached a point where I am forced to make a public confession. My life is now full of scandal.
I know that many of you who have known me as a quiet, easy-going, fun-loving person would be appalled to hear me admit to being involved in what would appear to be some questionable and unmentionable situation. Others, on the other hand, who have always assumed that there was more to me than met the eye, would be saying they always suspected I was too good to be true.
So what is this scandal in which I am involved all about? Let me first let it be known that it has nothing to do with money, nothing to do with me being less than a 100 per cent man and nothing to do with me being involved with anybody’s wife. But it does have to do with a woman.
The first time I can remember seeing her was back in 2004. At the time she was married, albeit in a tumultuous relationship with no ray of hope. Her husband horned her going and coming – behind her back and even in front her face – despite the fact that he was blind as a bat. He also had a serious drug problem.
Nevertheless, she caught my eye with her big dreamy eyes that looked like two cups of sadness, her high cheekbones, her full sexy lips and the intensity she attached to life.
I would have seen her not more than two or three times between then and April last year when she really came into my life. This time she was single and what attracted more than anything else, including the physical attributes I have mentioned earlier, was the fact that we were both involved in a similar line of work.
She headed her own crisis management firm where she and her colleagues undertook assignments at the highest national level. I, on the other hand, headed my own public relations firm and am involved in quite a bit of crisis communications management on behalf of various clients, who are significantly less high flying than hers are.
Admiration for the professionalism with which she conducted herself and her business caught my eye and it wasn’t long before I was making sure that nothing stopped me from devoting my full attention to her on a particular night every week.
This year has made no difference. My behaviour has not changed and I can admit to being more seriously involved with her than I have ever been before despite the fact, unbelievably, that she is deeply in love with another man.
Hard as that is to believe, what would you say if I told you that the man with whom she is in love is a married man? Worse than that, what would you say if I also told you that the man’s wife has also come around to condoning the horns and is even now welcoming her in their house, as it were.
But I don’t care how she chooses to live her life, with whom she chooses to sleep or otherwise associate. I wouldn’t care if she even decides to poison her own father. All that matters to me is that come this Thursday night and as many Thursday nights as possible after that, I am going to stretch out on my couch and welcome Olivia Pope into my house, Scandal or no Scandal.
By the way, you all heard that she real-real pregnant for her real-real husband?
