Govt to say all on tax measures

Within three weeks, Barbadians will find out how Government’s 19-month Fiscal Adjustment Programme is being implemented.
Then, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Chris Sinckler will deliver a Ministerial Statement in Parliament on progress so far, with particular focus on implementing the proposed spending cuts.
This was revealed yesterday in a media statement issued by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs as it sought to clarify the implementation of the lottery tax measure proposed in the August 13 Budget.
In yesterday’s DAILY NATION, Dentonia Brewster, site operations manager at GTech, operators of the Barbados Lottery, said he was informed by the ministry in a letter on October 11, signed on behalf of the permanent secretary Martin Cox, that Government was no longer pursuing that proposal as “it would not be prudent”.
However in its statement yesterday, the ministry said Government would fully implement the 15 per cent tax on lottery winnings over $100 000, but acknowledged there would be some changes to the original proposal. (SP)
