THE?CITY OF?Bridgetown displayed pure dominance when they travelled north to the Speightstown  playing field to take on home team St Peter in the quarter-finals of the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Council Football Classic on Tuesday night.
The City ran out comfortable 4-1 winners despite playing with a man down for close to an hour.
In the other quarter-final, Christ Church East Central defeated St Michael West Central 4-2.
Christ Church East Central were out of the blocks quickly and moved to an early 2-0 lead, thanks to goals by Jamal Chandler in the 11th and Keon Harding in the 20th minute.
St Michael West Central levelled the scores before the break, courtesy goals from skipper Henderson Richards in the 25th minute and Rohan Weekes in the 37th.
However, two fantastic late goals in the final five minutes ensured Christ Church East Central a spot in the semi-finals.
In the 86th minute, Rico “Sas” Baptiste, unleashed a powerful left-foot shot from the top of the box, which gave custodian Terry Smith no chance.
Tennis star Darian King then finished a well constructed build-up by precisely placing his left-foot shot beyond the right arm of Smith to give the Christ Church lads their fourth goal in the 90th minute.
Outplayed
The City showed just why they are the two-time champions of this competition, as they completely outplayed and outscored St Peter.
Rohan Hewitt got on the score sheet for The City in the 12th minute.
A cross came from the left and Hewitt leapt above everyone to nod the ball beyond diving goalkeeper Kevin Clarke.
The City developed a momentum that was difficult for St Peter to match, but in the 38th minute a moment of madness occurred which could have cost The City.
Defender Jomo Brathwaite retaliated in a violent and physical manner to an opponent’s challenge,  incurring a direct red card and forcing the defending champions to play with a player down.
St Peter wasted several chances to equalize before the half. Damian “Duffy” Edwards was the main culprit as he uncharacteristically scuffed many of the simple opportunities offered to him.
Jeffrey Williams doubled The City’s lead in the 66th minute after he ran onto a ball just inside the penalty area and slammed his right-foot shot into the bottom right corner.
Dwayne Mars then made it 3-0 after a neat exchange of passes with Williams, who sent him through one-on-one with Clarke.
The former United States collegiate player easily tucked away his effort from just 12 yards out.
Edwards managed to pull one back for St Peter in the 79 minute, curling a free kick from the left-hand side of the penalty area into the top left corner, leaving goalkeeper Andre Small flat on his heels.
Hewitt grabbed his brace and The City’s fourth in the 86th minute, again beating Clarke from close range after breaking the offside trap.
