St Leonard’s Boys, Coleridge & Parry and Princess Margaret made impressive starts when the National Sports Council’s Secondary Schools’ Road Tennis Championship was served off at the NSC Courts on Friday.
St Leonard’s made no slips in dismissing Queen’s College in three matches.  Bryant Holder set the pace by crushing Nathan Moore 21-6,  21-17. Then Shamar Boyce beat Christopher Sandiford 22-20, 21-17 and Jabarry Carrington stopped Kemar Jordan 21-12, 21-12.
Princess Margaret were stunned in their first game as the flamboyant Justin Hinds of the Alleyne School destroyed Rohan Gittens 21-15, 21-1. However, Jerome Pinder then defeated Oshea Mayers 21-11, 21-19 and Hakeem Ellis outplayed Lewis Worrell 21-17, 21-13 to give Princess Margaret the win.
Combermere ‘B’ were short one player which could have cost them the match against Coleridge and Parry after the heavyset William Douglas captured a three-setter from Damon Pryme 21-12, 20-22, 21-18.  Ranaldo Husbands then beat Daniel King 21-15, 21-17 to end the contest 1-1 on the court with CP taking the decider by default.
The action continues on Wednesdays and Fridays at the NSC courts with the talented Emar Edwards expected to turn out for Combermere ‘A’. (KB)
