KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Leader of the main opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Andrew Holness has pledged to intensify his fight against poverty.
Holness who held onto the post of party leader in the recent leadership challenge, said he will use the mandate from his victory to focus on the development of the country.
“A result of my retaining the leadership of the party, you will see the party move with greater alignment with the philosophical beliefs of the unions; you will see the Jamaica Labour Party move with greater alignment with the working class of this country,” said Holness at the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union’s (BITU) conference in Kingston.
He said the move comes as he realized the recent challenge to his leadership of the JLP was more about differences of opinion on the development of the country.
The Opposition Leader, who said the JLP is best suited to a partnership between labour and capital, added that the refocus also comes from talking to young people who are frustrated with the economy.
