The opposition Barbados Labour Party is bringing what amounts to a no-confidence motion against Speaker of the House of Assembly Michael Carrington.
The move was announced yesterday by Leader of Opposition Business in the House, Kerrie Symmonds, during a media briefing at the Leader of the Opposition’s office, in the West Wing of Parliament.
“We have decided that we will take this issue to the Parliament of Barbados by way of a motion of censure against His Honour the Speaker,” he told reporters after the Opposition had boycotted the afternoon session of Parliament.
“I have this evening [yesterday] signed the resolution for it to be transmitted and filed and therefore we will be anticipating that very early in the new year, this is a matter that will attract the attention of Parliament and, again, the country.”
He said it was triggered by rulings Carrington made yesterday during debate on a money resolution dealing with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. (TY)
