Fraud at large

A SLIPPERY FRAUDSTER continues to trick elderly people out of thousands of dollars while managing to stay a step ahead of the detectives tracking him.
Police have put out a fresh appeal to senior citizens to call them first before giving out money to anyone – even to a relative they believe to be in trouble. Within the last month four more elderly people were taken in by a man pretending to be a sick relative overseas, bank manager, government minister or some other influential person.
Station Sergeant Mark White made the appeal again yesterday after being contacted by the DAILY NATION.
“Call the Fraud Squad first. Check with us first before you take up money and give to anyone,” the head of the unit said.
He explained that there could be more victims since some people were embarrassed and dared not tell relatives or the police.
