School choir goes a-carolling

EVERYTHING CLICKED when pupils of George Lamming Primary School sang themselves into the hearts of patrons of the Café Bar Carizma in Holetown, St James, yesterday.
?The bar had a need, the children had the talent and café manager Samantha Robinson had the means to make it all happen.
“I am also a member of the school’s PTA [parent-teacher association], so when my boss wanted to have a Christmas theme, I came up with George Lamming,” she said.
Café owner Anita Ashton said church groups were considered but Robinson persuaded her to use the children as they were a very good singing group.
She added that her business would make a monetary donation to the school in appreciation.
Organizer from the school, Paula Chapman, said the children were eager to take part and took time from their vacation to come and practice on a daily basis.
The children were accompanied by calypso maestro Anthony Gabby Carter.
“I’m always working with the George Lamming School so when they asked me to come, I came. If any school wants me to perform with them, I will,” he said.
The appreciative audience, which was made up mostly of tourists, listened with rapt attention to the children who sang six songs. (CA)
