COUNT US IN!
That was the reaction of the chairman of the Private Sector Association, John Williams, to the call yesterday from Opposition Leader Mia Mottley for the setting up of an eminent persons group to advise on the way forward for the economy.
But he went further than the Opposition Leader in calling for the terms of such a group to be clearly spelt out, with a commitment to adhere to reporting deadlines as well as implementation.
During a Press conference on Saturday Mottley said: “This group should be given four weeks to report back to the country as to all the necessary actions to be taken to truly stabilize Barbados and return us to growth . . . .
“We are prepared to nominate persons of the highest calibre,”?she added as she suggested former prime minister Owen Arthur and his former minister of agriculture Erskine Griffith.
“I would say as chairman of the Private Sector Association that we would support such an initiative and that we would be willing to nominate someone to the group . . . but we believe such a group should have a wide rather than a limited mandate, examining and reporting back on all aspects of what is needed to get our economy back on track,” Williams told the DAILY NATION.
