There has been a positive response from Barbadians to the appeal to reach out and help victims of the Christmas Eve natural disaster in the Eastern Caribbean.
Edmund Bradshaw, director general of the Barbados Red Cross Society, said last evening that he hoped Barbadians would continue to support the appeal today and tomorrow.
The Barbados Coast Guard will be delivering relief supplies to St Vincent today. The BDF said last night that this will be the first relief trip and it is anticipated that more may be undertaken.
Heavy rain led to several deaths, flooding, landslides and millions of dollars in damage in St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and Dominica.
“We need canned foods, lots of bottled water is required, as well as toiletries, baby diapers and formula,” Bradshaw said. Items can be dropped off at Red Cross headquarters in Warrens, St Michael, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The facility will not be open on Tuesday or Wednesday. (ES)
