Make-up artist Renee Ifill shows us how to pull out the glam for New Year parties across the island.
New Year’s Eve glam calls for more than your regular smoky eye and red lip. This is your time to ring out the old with the ultimate in sultry, sparkly make-up. Get out your glitter and false lashes and liners for your best jaw-dropping look of the year.
This is no the time to skimp on foundation and coverage. You will hopefully party till dawn and your make-up should last. Ensure you create a good base with primers to keep your make-up in place.
You can create a glamorous look by selecting metallic eye shadow. The metallic sheen of silver, gold or bronze adds drama to your lids and makes them look like you worked harder than you really did. If you have been shying away from liquid liner all year, this is the time to give it a try. They come in a wide range of colours and even if creating flawless eye make-up looks is not your thing, a sweep of liquid liner, whether glittering gold or deepest black, make you party-ready with one careful flick.
If there is one time of year glitter is allowed, it is New Years Eve. The key to adding glitter in an age-appropriate way is to highlight small areas. Pat a superfine cosmetic grade glitter on your lids, on the corner of your eyes or even brow bone for a shimmer as pretty as it is grown-up.
You don’t need pounds of makeup to make a statement, lashes come in a wide selection of shapes and sizes. Select ones with natural flair and with a little liner and a coat of mascara, all eyes will be on your eyes. Pair this natural eye with glowing skin and a gloss in your favourite colour to complete a look which will enhance, not overpower that special outfit, not to mention much more low-maintenance than your typical make-up look.
If lip colours are your favourite way to add glamour, this is the time to love lipstick. Matte lipstick is easy to maintain throughout the night but gloss gives you a festive look. This year deep plums and berry shades join reds as favourites for this time of year and if you don’t think you can pull off red, consider a wine-coloured shade.
While matte skin gives a polished finish, New Year’s Eve is the time when not only the fireworks have to shimmer. Adding a blush with hints of shimmer to your cheeks gives a luminous glow that looks healthy and fresh. Adding a hint of glitter to the area just above the blush on your cheek will give you a truly highlighted look.
Looking your best on the biggest night of the year is easy when you consider these tips:
Use shimmer or glitter for fun glamour.
Add metallic to your eyes, even smoky ones for additional pop.
Use rich lip colours to add sophisticated glamour to your look.
Apply lashes for an eye-catching look.
Invest in a fixing spray and blotting sheets to maintain your look.
