JANELLE LINTON and Corey Greaves carried off the top honours from the Barbados Karate Association (BKA) as well as their respective clubs when a joint awards ceremony was held recently at the Barbados Shotokan Karate Club (BSKC) in Marine Gardens recently.
Linton was adjudged the Most Outstanding Female for 2013 by the BKA for her outstanding performance during the Caribbean Karate Championships this year and she also received the same award from her club BSKC.
Greaves carried off the top award from the BKA for his performance in the Caribbean Championships where he won four gold medals and two silver medals.
His club, Queen’s College Karate Club, also voted him as the Most Outstanding Adult Male for his dedication throughout the year and for achieving his fifth degree black belt.
Greaves was also part of the trio, which included, Andre Lovell and Michael Mikey Mercer, that won the BKA award for their outstanding performance at the championships.
The trio won gold in the team events of kata (forms), bunkai and kumite (sparring) during the championships. This team has been undefeated in team kumite for the last five years at regional and international level.
Other awards included the Most Outstanding Junior Male and Female and they went to Tyrese Benksin and Asha Stevenson. They also won their respective club’s Most Outstanding Junior awards.
Angela Dixon was the Most Outstanding Senior Female, while Martin King was the Most Outstanding Male.
King and Leonard Leuwaisee received service awards from the BSKC for their dedication and commitment beyond the call of duty.
The Most Outstanding Male from BSKC was Oliver Browne, while the Most Improved Adult Athlete from BSKC was Kevon Squires and Most Improved Junior Athlete was Adam Trotman.
From QCKC, the Most Outstanding Adult Female was Paula Allsopp, while the Most Outstanding Junior Male was Brian McConney.
