ENTREPRENEURS are being encouraged to follow the example of Barbadian businessman Sir Kyffin Simpson and take advantage of Guyana’s vast reserves of arable land.
“We need to see it as a single space where Guyana’s land should be worked on together by the Caribbean to supply our needs and avoid the vagaries that cause the uncertainty of prices that we suffer from,” said Guyana’s Minister of Agriculture Dr De Lisle Ramsammy said in an interview with the WEEKEND NATION.
And he pointed out that through initiatives from that country’s former president Bharrat Jagdeo, the mechanisms were in place for anyone to take advantage of the concessions being offered to cultivate Guyana’s vast lands.
In his proposals Jagdeo invited Caribbean investors to utilize the land resources in Guyana to address the food and nutrition security of the region.
In Barbados for regional meeting, Ramsammy said it was time for the Jagdeo initiative to be adopted.
