BY APRIL, the future of 19 statutory corporations and the 9 000 people who work with them will be known.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler revealed that some of the corporations would be closed, others merged, while a few would see the involvement of the private sector where practical.
Sinckler made the disclosure in answering a question during a media briefing on the Barbados economy at Government Headquarters yesterday.
The minister said the final report on the operations of the statutory entities should be completed by the end of this week or next week at the latest, and by the end of this month Cabinet would examine the recommendations.
“We are currently reviewing the operations of 19 statutory corporations with a view to consolidating their operation,” he said.
“The final report will be presented to Cabinet shortly and implementation, follow[ing] wide and intense discussions with all of our Social Partners, will commence in April 2014.”   (SP)
