DEAR CHRISTINE: In the dark on pending divorce?

Date:

Share post:

Dear Christine,
I have been married for 20 years and until lately, my husband has never taken off his wedding ring.
However, within the past five months, he has developed a habit of removing it more often that I like. I asked him about it on a few occasions and his responses have been very vague, like:
“I was doing work in the yard”, “It felt loose”, “I didn’t realize it was off again”.
I accepted his responses and never bothered about them, until I ran into one of his colleagues a few weeks ago.
I have known her for the past five or so years. When she saw me she lamented that it was so sad that after so many years of marriage, my husband and I were going through a divorce. She seemed very sympathetic and sincere.
I told her she must be confusing us with another couple and that our marriage is stable and intact.
She looked like she was going to fall and made some excuse about being in a hurry, and off she went.
It seems obvious to me now that my husband must be having an affair, and has told his colleagues about a pending divorce. I am yet to confront him because I am deeply hurt and betrayed.
In fact, should I confront him? I just need to know what to do.

Dear S.S.,
What you have before you is circumstantial evidence which seems convincing. What proof do you have that your husband is planning to divorce you?
I think you should have a planned meeting with him and let him know about this incident. It’s no use torturing yourself by simply wondering. I’m sure that once the truth comes out, you’ll know what your next move will be, especially, if you’ve been betrayed.
