Stop the bullying

A FATHER, whose 11-year-old son was severely beaten last term by a senior student at his school, is calling on the Ministry of Education to take urgent action against the bullying that is happening at schools.
Ricardo Wickham only realised the severity of the attack on his son when he received a video last week of a senior student hitting his son in the head with what appeared to be a piece of broken furniture.
The video was recorded by another student with a cellphone during the incident that took place in a classroom in the presence of several other senior students. They can be heard laughing in the background and making fun of his son, who was screaming loudly and cowering behind a desk. The boy stands over him and strikes him with the stick and afterward the victim runs from the classroom screaming and holding his head.
“Every time I look at this video or somebody tells me about it, it brings tears to my eyes,” said Wickham, 39, when he brought the video to the Nation yesterday morning on his cellphone. He pointed out that it had gone viral on Facebook.
