Rihanna won her eighth Grammy award last night as she copped Best Urban Contemporary Album for her seventh studio album Unapologetic.
The Bajan star, who was not present to accept the accolade, beat out Tamar Braxton’s album Love and War, Fantasia’s Side Effects of You, Salaam Remi’s One in the Chamber, and Mack Wild’s New York: A Love Story.
Meanwhile, the eldest son of Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, won Best Reggae Album for his Ziggy Marley In Concert set.
The 14-track album, recorded on Marley’s 2012 world tour, got the nod over Sly & Robbie and the Jam Masters’ Reggae Connection; Sizzla’s The Messiah; One Love, One Life by Beres Hammond and Snoop Lion’s Reincarnated.
The night was dominated by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams who won in every category in which they were nominated, including the coveted Album of the Year and Record of the Year for the funk-electronic anthem Get Lucky.
