Water and swimming have always been hailed as having tremendous therapeutic value and the Aquatic Centre in Wildey, St Michael, can boast of further enhancing the opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy the therapy of its pools.
Thanks to a contribution from the Central Bank of Barbados and the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Ltd, a lift has been installed at the centre that can be used to move wheelchair occupants into and out of the pool.
The lift eliminates the difficulties experienced by people having to physically lift individuals into and out of the water.
Central Bank Governor Dr DeLisle Worrell was on hand for the recent presentation along with other bank officials and key members of the swimming fraternity.
