DEAR CHRISTINE: Should I wait around for ex?

Share post:

Dear Christine,
I broke up with a guy more than two years ago, but I must admit I never really got over him.
My feelings for him are much the same as when we first met six years ago.
I am trying very hard to get over him so I can move on with my life, but somewhere in the back of my mind I am thinking that if I move on and find someone else, I will miss a second chance to be with him.
We have both discussed the possibility of going back together but he said we should wait a few years longer before we make such a decision. Since then, he indicated to me that we should probably just remain good friends.
Soon after that decision, we were discussing the subject again and I mentioned I was not the only one who thought we should be together.
He asked me who else thought that. I told him a number of persons told me we should get back together because we were good together. Included among these persons is my mother.
He said he didn’t know what was there between us, if there was anything, so he couldn’t predict what was to come in the future for us.
I know he’s right, that he doesn’t know what will happen, but right now I just want to know what I should do. This situation is driving me crazy.
It’s like a case of do we or don’t we? Should we or should we not? I know you don’t know what he’s feeling and you don’t know what he’s thinking, but if you could give me an idea of what you think he’s thinking that would be a big help.
Thanks for taking the time to read this; it’s much appreciated.

Dear L.A.,
It’s difficult to get into your friend’s head, but judging from what he has told you, I don’t think he wants to get back together with you. If he did, he would not have suggested that you two remain “just friends”.
Life goes on. There is someone out there for you, someone who will be committed to you and who will love you unselfishly.
Don’t hang on to the past. I believe there is a bright future ahead of you but you’ve got to give yourself a chance to walk into that future by refusing to look back and by looking ahead.
