LAY-OFFS AT THE National Housing Corporation (NHC) have been creating an unexpected headache for residents of the high-rise housing units in Valerie, St Michael.
Late Saturday evening a fire alarm on the fifth floor of Building 2 was triggered, causing the sirens to go off. Residents were still unsure what caused the issue, which also left the beacons on the fire alarms flashing and the elevators inoperable throughout Sunday.
Residents said they were also worried that when the alarm went off there was no response from either the Royal Barbados Police Force or the Barbados Fire Service.
However, one person said the building superintendent visited the complex, but was unable to rectify the problem.
