Hundreds of students gathered at various churches across the island to mark Ash Wednesday yesterday.
When the Daily Nation visited St Thomas Parish Church, students of Welches Primary and Hillaby/Turner’s Hall Primary were lustily singing popular songs like Sunbeam, I’ve Got The Joy In My Heart and How Great Is Our God.
During the service, which started at 9 a.m., Reverend Dr Michael Clarke spoke briefly about the meaning of the Lenten Season during which the students bodly declared: “The Lenten season runs for 40 days and 40 nights.”
Clarke added: “Lent is not about Satan. Lent is about our remembering how Jesus wrestled with Himself. In the 40 days of Lent we must use it to find out God’s purpose for us.” (TTY)
