THE?PACE will be fast and in some cases furious this weekend as two major sports attract global attention with thousands pouring into the island.
Cricket lovers have already gobbled up the majority of tickets that went on sale for the upcoming three Twenty20 Internationals between West Indies and England at the historic Kensington Oval which has a seating capacity of 14 500.
Racing circles are buzzing in anticipation of a showdown between Barbados’ most celebrated jockey Patrick Husbands, on American horse Major Marvel, and another hometown favourite Rico Walcott, aboard the spirited Areutalkintome, in the 33rd Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup.
Walcott’s spectacular success last year has put him in contention for the annual Sovereign Award for best jockey in Canada, a title already captured by Husbands, setting the stage for an exciting finish at the Garrison Savannah, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
