GOVERNMENT HAS ANOTHER expression of interest in the complete takeover of Almond Beach Village in St Peter.
It comes from local hotelier Bernard “Bernie” Weatherhead who, having already crossed the profit line in just under two months of operating parts of the property, has expressed confidence that flying the Almond brand flag would be just as successful as any foreign management at a lot less cost.
The government has already reached an agreement with Jamaica’s Sandals hotel chain to manage a new Beaches resort to be built on the Almond site.
“I would be happy to sit down with Government and come up with a plan of ownership, whether it be a dual ownership or what, but we could come up with a method. It would be sad to see it (Almond Beach Village) go,” he told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday.
Weatherhead said he was prepared to compete with others to run the entire property.
