GOVERNOR GENERAL Sir Elliott Belgrave was moved to tears yesterday when his alma mater, Boscobel Primary School, honoured his sterling contribution to Barbadian society.
Voice breaking, the Governor General thanked organisers of the visit,  three days after his birthday, and celebrated under the banner: Journey To Success.
He recalled his own days as in the halls of the St Peter school from 1936 to 1943, and the impact of the teachers on his life.
The former judge told students his story of success could also be theirs, and encouraged them to stay away from negative influences and behaviour.
“I urge you to respect your parents, your teachers and yourselves and most of all your country. With lots of hard work and diligence, you can achieve whatever you set your minds to,” he said.
Students sang and told of Sir Elliott’s life’s work in the legal profession. The school also presented two photographs.
The Governor General reciprocated with a photograph of himself and Lady Belgrave. He also extended an invitation to senior students to visit Government House. (LW)
