BARBADOS’ YOUTH AMBASSADOR to the Nanjing games in China Ryan Brathwaite has started his official duties.
The 22-year-old, who left for China on Friday along with Chef de Mission, Glyne Clarke will be joining 103 other youth ambassadors from around the world for a seminar scheduled for March 25 to 28.
The seminar will teach them about their roles and help them to better publicize and promote Nanjing 2014 and its Cultural Education Programme (CEP) activities. They will also take part in the testing of culture education activities, provide their feedback and get to know each other through fun teambuilding games.
Brathwaite, not to be mistaken for the country’s world champion hurdler, is a veteran in representing the country in youth related assignments.
He attended the 51st Session for Young Participants in Greece, took part in the Youth Olympic Torch Ceremony in Mexico and is a volunteer with the Olympic Academy, assisting in the development of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc.’s bi-monthly newsletter.
Brathwaite said he is very proud to be given this new assignment and he cannot wait to get back to Barbados to promote Nanjing.
“Being able to represent your country is a distinct honour and I am especially pleased to combine my love of sport with my thirst for new knowledge.  I am very excited about learning about China and about bringing this learning back to Barbados to promote Nanjing to the youth,” he said.
The seminar will bring an unforgettable Youth Olympic Games experience to the ambassadors, allowing them to better understand Nanjing, Nanjing 2014 and Culture Education Program activities, and encouraging them to promote Nanjing 2014 and CEP activities to the athletes of their own national organising committees.
