THE POWERADE Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships (BSSAC) were declared officially opened this morning at 10:37 by Dennis DePeiza, general secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados.
On a cloudy, overcast day drizzles of rain threaten to put a damper on the biggest Inter-school athletics battle of the year.
Athletes bedecked in their school colours and led by their principals and physical education teachers proudly paraded on the track.
Rivaldo Leacock of The Lester Vaughan School, the 2012 victor ludorum, said the athletes’ oath.
In his feature address, Harcourt Wason, former middle distance athlete and Physical Education teacher at Combermere School, urged competitors to give of their best and respect the officials and rules which govern the meet.
Three people were honoured for outstanding contribution to BSSAC – Vaneisha Cadogan, Rudolph Odwin and Nigel Marshall. (TTY)
