CHAMPION JOCKEY Anderson Trotman rode three winners on the Barbados Turf Club’s eighth day of the first racing season – the Salute To The 2012 Champions Raceday at the Garrison Savannah yesterday.
But champion apprentice Damario Bynoe had the last laugh, winning the day’s feature event aboard raging hot favourite, the H & M-owned Shared Adventure, in the Shared Adventure Trophy Handicap over 1 570 metres.
The victory was nerve-jangling one for his connections, who had to survive a steward’s enquiry and an objection by the connections of highly fancied Areutalkintome.
No sooner had starter Mark Batson sent the half dozen runners on their way than Areutalkintome rushed into the lead. He maintained that position for only a furlong as Shared Adventure, which was drawn against the rails, was switched to the outside to pick up the running before the horses entered the clubhouse turn.
It was at that point that Areutalkintome was checked by rider Anderson Trotman while A.P. Vincero raced on the wide outside in a close third position with Lune De Barachois and Little Man Arran racing as a team and Daga at the back.
Bynoe settled Shared Adventured going down the back stretch to a handy two-length lead as Aerutallkintome battled Lune De Barachois for second position and Daga moved into fourth.
At the top of the hill, A.P Vincero and Areutalkintome began sending distress signals which indicated an early end for both horses. This left Lune De Barachois and Daga as the major threats to Shared Adventure.
After turning into the homestretch with a two-length lead and with his challengers fully extended, Shared Adventure started to shorten his strides inside the last 50 metres. This allowed Daga to come perilously close to getting the victory but that was not to be as Shared Adventure held on in the dying stages.
Lune De Barachois, who hardly seems to know how to run a bad race, finished a gutsy third under Dario Dalrymple while Little Man Arran, with Reshawn Latchman astride, secured the fourth position.
The Trotman show had started as early as the third race where he patiently guided home the unbeaten Neville Isdell filly Kariba Rose to her fourth victory in The Price Is Right Trophy Condition Race for West Indian-bred three-year-olds over 1 100 metres.
Trotman next won the Bubba’s Sunday buffet and breakfast Ride Of The Day aboard Sir David Seale-owned Marcus Antonius which he skilfully guided to victory in the Reshawn Latchman Trophy Handicap for horses rated 57-75 over 1 800 metres.
CAH Racing’s Lavani then gave Trotman his third and easiest win of all when she won the Antonio Whitehall Trophy Handicap for three-year-old maidens over 1 100 metres.
