TWO WEEKS after the Beautify Barbados project came to an end another is about to come on stream to “beautify” the highway from the Grantley Adams International Airport in Christ Church to St Lucy.

The Adopt-A-Km (kilometre) Community Highway Project will beautify and maintain the landscape along the highway by allowing individuals and corporations to adopt a kilometre and have their names and logos featured on a four-foot sign that will be decorated with foliage.

Businessman Mark Maloney, who is behind the private sector project, told the DAILY NATION it was conceptualised six years ago and would save Government thousands of dollars per month while employing over 800 people.

The project is expected to get off the ground next week with the first 20 signs being erected from the airport to the roundabout at Graeme Hall. (MB)
