ILLEGAL VENDING HAS already started in the green space off Constitution River in Bridgetown, where $50 million was spent, in addition to the Church Village project.
Over the past few days, Herbert Courtland has been erecting a shack opposite Starcom Network, from which he plans to sell his fruits and vegetables. But yesterday chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII), Stuart Layne, insisted the structure “has to be removed”.
Courtland, 52, or Hindsbury Road, St Michael, told the WEEKEND NATION that he had been selling items from a pallet for years in the area but he decided to build something more permanent so that he would not have to transport his products to and from a stall in the River Bus Terminal he shared with another vendor.
“This is what I do to feed my family. I plan to paint it up and make it look nice. It wouldn’t look like this when I finish,” the vendor and father of five said.
