MINISTER OF LABOUR Senator Dr Esther Byer Suckoo has been called in to mediate the dispute between the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) and the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC).
Talks between the two parties broke down tonight at the Labour Department in Warrens, St Michael.
That meeting is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Meanwhile, BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman said protest action would continue. He has advised all unionised members at the Portvale Sugar Factory to report as usual on Monday, but not to work until the union’s demands have been met.
Strike action commenced last Thursday at the island’s lone sugar factory when Sir Roy accused the BAMC of firing the first blow by dismissing 57 workers at the Andrew’s Sugar Factory.
