French get-together

Francophones and Francophiles around the world celebrated Journee international de Francophonie (International Day of French-speaking people) recently and the  Francophone community in Barbados joined in the celebrations.
The Canadian High Commission, together with the Alliance Francaise de Bridgetown and the honorary Consulate for France, hosted an informal reception and viewing of the film La Grande Seduction by Canadian film-maker Jean-Francois Pouliot at the Barbados Cruising Club.
The French language film with English subtitles, set in a small fishing village in Quebec, won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and wowed critics at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
La Francophonie is a worldwide organisation representing countries and regions where there is notable affiliation with French culture and language.
Canadian High Commissioner Richard Hanley briefly told guests the Barbados event presented an opportunity to share some of the Canadian culture and to strengthen the relationship between Canada, the Alliance Francaise de Bridgetown, Barbadians and French-speaking people living on the island.
