ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – A gunman who reportedly attempted to rob a businessman and his wife late Thursday at Nain in South East St Elizabeth, Jamaica, ended up being shot dead by the businessman, police have confirmed.
Police have identified the dead man as 36-year-old Charles Rowe otherwise called ‘Chris’ of Greenvale, just outside Mandeville in Manchester.
Police say a Glock 40 pistol and ammunition were taken from the scene. Police and residents told OBSERVER ONLINE that at about8:40 p.m. the man entered the retail store and brandished a gun declaring he had come to rob the couple.
The businessman opened fire with his licensed firearm killing the would-be robber on the spot.
Police say at least two accomplices fled in a waiting motor vehicle immediately after the shooting.
A bystander told OBSERVER ONLINE by telephone that three men were in the car which drove away from the scene.
Reports from the area say the suspects, including the dead man, had been seen in the nearby community of Lititz earlier Thursday afternoon socialising at bars. (Observer)
