SAVE?THE?FESTIVAL. Member of Parliament John Boyce and veteran organiser Herbie Yearwood say the Oistins Fish Festival, one of the major planks of the Easter weekend, is crying out for greater sponsorship to ensure its survivability.
Speaking at yesterday’s opening ceremony of the event that spans four decades, Boyce, a Cabinet Minister and MP for the area since 2008, said the event could do with a further injection of sponsorship and stronger participation in the planning of the festival.
“The festival not only needs more sponsorship but requires more energy in the planning of the event,” he said.
Boyce also reflected on the passing of Archbishop Granville Williams, the patriarch of the Sons of God Apostolic Spiritual Baptist faith, whom he described as a special friend of the Oistins Festival.
