LOCAL, REGIONAL AND international speakers all had glowing words of praise for the patriarch of the Spiritual Baptist faith Archbishop Granville Williams today.
A lively thanksgiving service at the Jerusalem Apostolic Cathedral in Ealing Grove, Christ Church was attended by Government ministers, sports people, cultural practitioners and others.
Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley said Williams played a vital role in culture, religion and community life.
Meanwhile, social commentator Elombe Mottley spoke on his history with Williams and called for continued unity in the faith.
“Archbishop Williams was certainly a visionary, and his leadership in this process is undeniable. We thank him for his total involvement in such diverse areas of cultural and community life and join with you in celebrating his contribution to the cultural space in Barbados . . . [and] I am happy to announce that as a symbol of our appreciation for the Archbishop’s contribution to our culture, a special tribute will be paid to him during this year’s delivery of the last canes ceremony,” he said.
