CARLIE PIPE is surely having a good run of results recently.
Barbados’ best female distance runner turned in yet another top performance this weekend after placing third at Saturday’s 5K of the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Competing against 456 female athletes, Pipe didn’t get a personal best but her clocking of 19 minutes and 46 seconds was still good enough to secure her a podium finish in the women’s category.
The result is less than two months removed from Pipe’s impressive showing at the World Half Marathon Championships in Denmark, where she set a new personal best of one hour, 32:58 minutes after coming in as the first Bajan to ever contest the event.
Locals Natalie Sachrajda (18:32.4) and Emily Ferguson (18:32.8) took the top two spots in a thrilling sprint to the finish, while Pipe’s time put her in 22nd overall out of a total 1100 competitors.
“I didn’t pull a personal best, but third out of 456 makes me happy, and I’m always glad to make the podium,” said Pipe
“There were some inclines at the end that gave me a bit of stress, but it was nice and cool temperatures and a sunny day. It was a huge race and a great experience, but nothing beats running on home soil.” (JM)
