A FIRE AT Chapel Gap No. 1, Paynes Bay, St James destroyed one house and slightly damaged another this afternoon.
The house belonging to Jennifer Moseley was gutted by fire around 3:35 p.m. Efforts to get a comment from Moseley or her son, who shared the house with her, were unsuccessful.
The other house that was damaged was unoccupied. The sister of the owner was at the scene, but did not want to be identified or give a comment.
The glass windows were broken and the guttering damaged.
A neighbour who preferred anonymity said she was at home when she saw the flames and fire, but did not know how it could have started.
Twelve officers from the Barbados Fire Service, under the command of acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Lloydson Phillips, attended to the blaze.
Phillips said they responded to the fire with two water tenders, but upon arriving at the scene realised they needed more water and called in the water tanker that carries 3 000 gallons of water. (LK)
