It was an?awesome climax and no doubt Bajans have now become full believers of Global Rally Cross (GRC).
The action on Sunday’s final day of the Top Gear Festival was unlike anything ever seen before at the Bushy Park racing circuit.
Top Gear promised racing fans an awesome weekend and combining with GRC was certainly a great idea. From start to stop over the weekend, GRC, alongside Lewis Hamilton and Car Football, they delivered 100 per cent and have set the stage for the next couple of weekends.
If anyone said Hamilton wasn’t a top class driver they where certainly mistaken. Hamilton thrilled the fans all weekend with top class driving and doing insane donuts while racing with American ace Ken Block.
Speaking of Block, he had a weekend of mixed fortunes which included some podiums finishes in the heats when he was awarded a winning medal on Saturday. Sunday’s action didn’t culminate as well as he would’ve hoped as in the final heat where he was tipped to win a tussle with Joni Wiman, during the first lap, his car ended up resting dangerously on the track sidewalls.
After Block’s incident, the track was cleared and the drivers were brought back for what was one of, if not the best ever race at Bushy Park. The battles were hotly contested and in typical rally cross action, it was carnage.
One could say the Subarus were underpowered but Sverre Isachsen from Norway proved that they can fight with the best as his battle with Nelson Piquet Jr. will go down in Barbadian racing history.
With all the action going on, Scott Speed, who gave Volkswagen their first GRC win, Steve Arpin and Brian Deegan took the firt three positions. Arpin was full of praise for the cross and said it had everything a driver wanted.
It was announced that Top Gear would be back for 2015 and if it is anything like this year it will be a sight to behold and a treat to be a part of.
